ERP ACCOUNTING SOFTWARE COMPARISON: Intacct vs Sage 100

ERP accounting software comparison

ERP comparison is an important part of any system selection project to determine which solution is best for your business. In any ERP accounting software comparison, Sage 100cloud and Sage Intacct are both popular options. Now that Sage has acquired Intacct, they present a solid technology and accounting foundation for any business, across industries. Although both products may appear similar, there are a few key differences that can impact your final ERP selection.

General Accounting

Overall, Sage Intacct is stronger than Sage 100 for General Ledger functions. Sage Intacct includes a drill down to provide easy viewing of line items. Sage Intacct provides slightly better controls for audit trails. Transactions are unable to be deleted due to system controls.

Sage 100cloud has the advantage for accounts receivable invoice creation. Although both products offer invoice customization, this feature is a bit stronger on Sage 100cloud. Automation for A/R and A/P is similar across both offerings.

Inventory

Sage 100cloud is the leader in terms of inventory management but Sage Intacct’s forthcoming release scheduled for late Spring 2018 will close some of the gaps in this area.

Still, Sage 100cloud is most often recommended for small to midmarket distribution and manufacturing organizations because the native distribution features (sales order, purchase order, and inventory) are more robust.

With that said, Sage Intacct is a nice fit for a smaller, less sophisticated wholesale distributor or a service company that happens to have a small distribution business.

At this time, Sage 100cloud is the better product for manufacturers as it offers bills of material, work orders, material requirements planning, and other features required in a manufacturing environment. It is also a better fit for construction companies currently if they have ruled out traditional construction ERP products like Sage 100 Contractor or Sage 300 Construction & Real Estate.

Projects & Services

Sage Intacct is by far the better fit for project accounting. Not only does it have native project accounting features for time and expense billing, resource management, and project management – there are also at least three other professional service automation (PSA) applications that integrate with Sage Intacct providing additional options. Sage 100cloud has a few options available for project accounting and there is the native Job Cost module but that is not nearly as robust and is more of a fit for a construction business.

Reporting

Sage Intacct offers more in terms of custom reporting. Customization options abound in Sage Intacct and don’t require added costs, as they do in Sage 100. Users comment that Sage Intacct reports are able to show all important information. The dashboards also reduce dependence on creating reports as well.

Keeping the considerations above in mind, the best way to perform an ERP accounting software comparison is to use criteria that are important to your business.
